Sitting is the new smokingYou may have read one of the many articles citing research studies about the harmful effects of sitting. Increased risks of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and even depression have been linked to sitting too much. Some even suggest that two hours of sedentary behavior can be just as harmful as 20 minutes of exercise is beneficial.

On average we sit 9.3 hours a day compared to 7.7 hours of sleeping and a lot of the sitting happens while we are at work. So how can we reduce the amount of time we spend sitting at work?

Suggestions include having “walking” meetings instead of meeting across a table, taking short one-minute breaks regularly and having a sit/stand desk. Inscape’s height-adjustable worksurfaces provide a good sit/stand option. They allow office workers to easily switch between sitting and standing positions to enhance movement while working. Two options are available: freestanding tables or panel-mounted.

Contact your Inscape representative for details on including this healthful option into your workspaces.
